Last Sunday, while waiting for my girlfriend in Alabang Starmall, somebody approached me and asked me if I could send a text message to his friends who he will meet that day in Starmall. He explained that he could not send any text message because his cellphone is low in battery. Because he looked to be in desperate need, I acceded to his plea and sent his message to his friends using my cellphone.
All is well until I received this message yesterday:
All is well until I received this message yesterday:
“#@*^ KA UNG TAO KO BKT U KNHA UNG CP NYA BUDOL BUDOL K PALA HAYOP K PNAHAHANAP KNA NG MGA PULIS NPICTURN K NG MGA KSMA NYA KHPN.”
Well, the gist of the message, as translated into English is that the person who sent me the text message accuses me of stealing his friend’s cellphone. He/she accuses me as a member of the Budol-Budol Gang and he scared me by saying that the police are already hunting me down and they got a picture of me.
For those who don’t know, Budol-Budol Gang is a group of criminals who are known to hypnotize their victims so that they could steal his/her money and valuables without resisting. I have one teacher who became victim of this gang. My teacher let the criminals in her house and gave them all of her money and jewelry. When she woke from hypnosis, she discovered that she had been a victim of the Budol-Budol Gang.
I believe that whoever sent me this message is the accomplice of the person who approached me last Sunday. They are trying to scare me by saying that the police are hunting me down. If I believe what they are saying then they will extort money from me so as stop them from imprisoning me.
For the whole day yesterday, I received text messages from unknown persons that usually contain threats, which I just ignored. The last text message that I received was a message asking me to become his/her textmate. The last text message just showed that those criminal harassing me are desperate to initiate communication.
As of now, I am not receiving any text message from them but I am sure that they will try again to contact me. Because of that, I am changing my cellphone so they could totally stop harassing me.
With that, I learned a valuable lesson – never let any stranger use your cellphone no matter how trustworthy or how desperate they seem to be.
How about you? What are your experience regarding thieves and criminals?

Give them their own dose of medicine.

Haha!
Btw, I do hope everything's sorted out - all ok now. Take care...
ReplyDeleteOh dear! Sometimes it is better not to be too kind. I always warn my daughter never to entertain strangers - young or old - want to borrow your hp, want you to help make a call or send an sms.... Even old people may be accomplices - can never trust anybody these days.
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree with you. Like they say, you never be too careful. Your advice to your daughter is right. It is hard to trust anyone these days. Finding a really trustworthy strangers are like looking for hay inside a needlestack.
DeleteBtw, it is OK now. They will never contact me again. I changed my number.
When the first time i saw your post i was really OMG, what a...and i thought you were a victim of it, but thanks God, you were not though you were harassed.
ReplyDeleteMy uncle was actually a victim of a gang but i think it's not budol budol and in his case, it is worse!.
We really should be careful with strangers, even, just like you said, they are trustworthy.
That is a bad experience for your Uncle. It is irritating to hear something like that.
DeleteThese crimes should not go on. Something must be done.
ReplyDeleteGrabe ah. Buti kwintas lang ang kinuha sa kanya. Thank God talaga.
DeleteYup, nagpalit na ako ng number. Mas mabuti nang safe.
i will let someone use my celphone if i could see someone is in danger.
ReplyDeleteyou should not response to txt which is from unknown people.
no one to trust nowadays.
BE CAREFUL. TAKE CARE!
Ow! Yes. I think that I said these things harshly. Of course we should help those who are danger in all the way we can.
DeleteThanks for the advice Ate.
Yah. Buti nga Nicxter. As in.
Budol-budol gang? Scary! Can hypnotize people?
ReplyDeleteIt's a good thing you ignore their messages! Yes never let strangers use your cellphone! A good lesson learnt! : )
ReplyDeleteApparently they could do that Foong. And they have so many victims already.
DeleteYes. I just ignored those criminals. It is better to be safe than sorry.
2 of my classmates went to SM center here in Las Pinas. They said it was they're meeting place because they were going to do their biology project. They were crossing the road to ride a jeepney, while a elderly lady caught their attention, she introduced her self as one of my classmates tita (i'm not saying my classmates' names for personal reason) they went back inside sm center, my other classmate had brought then, a Sony Vaio laptop, a Nikkon SLR, and a Samsung Galaxy S, it was all in her bag. She gave it to the other girl who was said to be "hipnotized" and the elderly lady claimed to be her niece. The lady told her "niece" to fit clothes in the fitting room with her, while her friend was told to go across the street (from sm center) to buy an envelope. She didn't want to go out of the mall, then she decided just to buy at the office warehouse just inside the mall area. When she came back, her bag was gone and her friend was stunned or tulala and her so called aunt was gone.
ReplyDeleteOh my, that is bad! Really really bad.
DeleteI hope that you and your friends are ok now. Did you reported it to the police? Possibly not because the police will be at a loss on how to capture these criminals.
All you can do is to be more careful next time.
beware - a lot of people have been victimized in Floridablanca, Pampanga. Let's be each other's watcher. If you noticed anyone acting strangely, report to the authorities right away.
ReplyDeleteYou are correct their Anonymous. Let us help each other out by being vigilant and by being mindful for our neighbors.
ReplyDeleteThese criminals will keep on targeting the vulnerable. The best way to stop them is for the whole community to be vigilant.
So, Floridablanca in Pampanga is a hotspot for this Budol-Budol criminals. The police in Floridablanca must work overtime to stop these criminals.

I'd like to share our experience: I believe my dad was a victim of budol-budol. This is their modus: A group of people goes house to house "conducting a survey". They say they've been commissioned by the gov't or are part of a government agency. They would even say that you haven't been surveyed because you don't have any stickers on your gate. They will ask you for ages of family members and other personal info. Finally they will say that they want to check your LPG. They told my dad that our LPG and regulator is defective and that we could get in trouble with the Fire Safety Department. Everything was working fine before they came. They were the ones who tampered with our gas cylinder and regulator. They conned my dad to buy something from them worth P2000.That something was a hose which you could get for less than P500 from the hardware.
ReplyDeleteTo prevent from being victimized by this group, even answering their survey, call the government offices they have mentioned (try googling them) and ask if they have an ongoing survey at your area and ask for the names of the survey takers. Call your barangay. Legal gov't surveys takers pay courtesy calls to the barangay first before going house to house. Their targets are flood-prone areas, subdivisions with no gates and senior citizens. Why do I say these? because they kept coming back to our house. They already have our info. They wouldn't even go to our neighbor's. It's a different person every time and they mention a different agency.

ReplyDeleteWhoa! These scalawags are horrible. They are harassing you. I suggest that you call the police when one of them show up to teach them a lesson.
Thank you for informing us of their latest modus. Keep safe!

However, I will not discount na possibility na nagahasa nga si misis mo.
I will pray for you and your wife.
