People's Park, Tagaytay City

Tagaytay City is one of the famous vacation get-away of people living in Metro Manila. It is the closest alternative to Baguio City and offers a refreshing atmosphere and cold temperature that is good for people looking for refuge from the heat of Metro Manila.

Tagaytay City is located at the highest location of the province of Cavite. Full urbanization of the area is still underway, which makes it a good place because the City is not yet suffering from the polluted atmosphere that is prevalent in Metro Manila.

Picnic Grove and the People’s Park in Tagaytay City are just some of the popular spot in this city. I only went to People’s Park during my visit to the Tagaytay City.

How to Go To Tagaytay City

There are many ways to reach Tagaytay City from Metro Manila. There are public buses that have direct route to Tagaytay City. Buses going to Tagaytay City could be found in the terminal station in Lawton Area in Manila City. There are also buses going to Tagaytay at Pasay.

As for me, I took the longer route. I boarded the Jam Bus going to Balibago, Santa Rosa in the province of Laguna. The Jam Bus Transit is located along EDSA just few meters away from GMA Network Building. The fare cost to Balibago is 67 pesos and the travel time is about two and a half hours. The travel took a long time because of the traffic situation in South Luzon Expressway.

Go down the Balibago Market and walk to the jeepney terminal located at the back of the market, then board the jeepney bound to Tagaytay City. The fare cost to Tagaytay City is 45 pesos and the travel time is about 45 minutes.

The terminal point of the Tagaytay City jeep is the Tagaytay Market. Jeepneys going to the Picnic Grove and the People’s Park could easily be found there.

People’s Park, Tagaytay

.

The People’s Park is the highest place in Tagaytay City. In sunny weather, you will be able to see the three great bodies of water, which are the Manila Bay, Laguna Lake, and the Taal Lake. It is also a good vantage point of viewing Tagaytay City and neighboring towns, which offers a refreshing view of greenery of the whole place.
.
The gate to the park. Pay 15 pesos or else.....

The entrance fee to People's Park is now thirty (30) pesos per person, as updated to us by one of the commenters to this post. Many visitors enter the park to get a good view of the city. The place also serves as a fun place for families and it also serve as picnic area for the people living in Tagaytay City and neighboring towns.

.

People going up the park for relaxation

The inside of the park is not that first-class. Actually, the park is need of a major repair. Ceilings are falling off and some parts should be re-modeled so as to become more appealing to tourists. People’s Park has souvenir shops and a restaurant. However, local visitors tend to bring their food because the price of food in People’s Park is quite expensive. During my visit, I noticed that a simple Tapsilog (a Philippine dish of fried meat, fried rice and fried egg) cost about eighty-five pesos. That price is astronomical for a tapsilog.
.
Shops in the park have an array of souvenir items for everyone

.

What I like about People's Park is its shops that offer various souvenir items ranging from handmade bags, toys made of wood, key chains and other items. We bought a nice handcrafted bag made of water lily at a cost of one hundred fifty (150) pesos after a haggling with the shop owner (It is a Filipino habit of negotiating prices with shop owner or the sales clerk. It is called in the local language as “tawad” or “tumatawad.” It seems that my girlfriend is excellent in making “tawad.” What a nice talent).

.

Live roosters for sale! Err...these are toys.

People’s Park is quite high up in the mountains and no malls are near it. However, this a good place for picture taking, relaxation, and “catching-up of things” with friends, family, and love ones.

  1. oh... People's Park! one of the best places I've gone to. Well, the entrance fee is very cheap, but the time travel is way too long and tiring. But I love the place.. But I got so tired walking up there, it is really hard to fight gravity eh? . . If they continued to develop the place,it would be a big Hit! the place itself is breath-taking. :)

  3. hi!question Lang.,i'LL be g0ing t0 picnic grove dn sana.,ahm.,i read ur articLe and u sed na sa tagaytay market ung mga jip papuntang grove.,ung tagaytay market ba the same as tagaytay rotonda or olivares?hope you'll answer me...

  4. Hello Anonymous,

First of all, thanks for dropping by.

Nope. The Rotonda or the Olivares is not the Tagaytay Market.

Tagaytay Market is quite far from Rotonda and you have to ride a tricycle just to reach the market.

Tagaytay Market is closer to Picnic Grove than Olivarez and this is the reason why few jeepneys going to Picnic Grove or People's Park reach Olivarez. The jeepney terminal is at Tagaytay Market.

If you are coming from Olivarez, tell the tricycle driver to bring you there. But be careful. Tricycle drivers demand exhorbitant fare. They will ask you 50 pesos. That is way above the actual fare.

    Enjoy your trip!

  7. @Mark:

Sorry po talaga for the very late reply. Matagal akong nawala sa Net eh.

My answer to your query is YES. People's Park is just a few minutes away from Picnic Grive kapag sumakay ikaw ng jeep.

  8. @Anonymous:

Walang rooms sa People's Park.

Sorry po for the late reply.

  9. Howdee,
I love Tagaytay. Have been there a few times while in the Philippines. The most recent was 2009 when I tried my hand at driving down there from Quezon City.
Made it safely, despite going through that massive intersection at Alabang and nearly hitting one old guy.

    Cant wait to go again.

Oh my! Thank God that you and that old man are safe. Yeah, unruly drivers and pedestrians, those are the hazards on our streets.

Am glad that the incident did not discourage you to visit Tagaytay again.

Hello Anon. I believe there is no rooms for rent inside Picnic Grove. Rooms for rent are located near Picnic Grove. I believe that the cheapest overnight rate for one room is one thousand pesos. But room for rent owners will do their best to increase their price so I suggest that you haggle with them.

Aside from Picnic Grove and People's Park, there is Bags of Beans (a coffee shop), Sonya's Garden, Pink Sisters' Chapel, Tierra de Maria (which is just near Picnic Grove), and Cliffhouse Tagaytay.

I can only speculate. You have to consider the fact that the entrance fee to the park is just 15 pesos. I believe that the money collected from the entrance fee is not enough to cover the operating expenses ng park. That's why they rent part of the park to souvenir shops and restaurants.

Siyempre suswelduhan yung mga bantay ng park. Also they will pay for the maintenance of the place. I believe that Tagaytay City subsidizes the operation of the park.

I suggest that you direct your question to Tagaytay City government.

  14. 15 pesos pa rin poh ba yung entrance fee??balak kc nmin pumunta this july???

  15. Dear Anonymous,

The entrance fee, the last time I went there around fourth quarter of 2012, is still 15 pesos.

I guess that the entrance fee to Tagaytay People's Park is still pesos as of this moment.

    Hello!

Anong way ang maganda? Depende sa iyo kung saan ka uuwi.

  20. Hi!

We're planning to go to Tagaytay this coming December 23 to spend Christmas. Do you think crowded ang Picnic Grove plus the traffic on the way?

Which one preferred unahin puntahan Picnic Groove or People's Park? Nagsasara ba ang People's Park?

    Thank you bloggers!

    1. December 23 is a Sunday and part of the long weekend. Expect heavy traffic in Tagaytay City because many people will also go to Picnic Grove and People's Park. My advice is you go somewhere else.

I experienced going to Picnic Grove during a long weekend and I was exhausted because of the heavy traffic. We had to go down the jeepney and walked to Picnic Grove.

I recommend that you go to People's Park first for sight seeing. After that you go to Picnic Grove where you can set your mat and have a picnic until sunset.

    1. There are Tagaytay-bound buses that pass through Pala-Pala, along E. Aguinaldo Highway. Just ride a bus there then go down Olivarez Area in Tagaytay City. Tell the bus conductor that you want to go down the terminal of jeepneys going to People's Park.

The jeepney terminal is also at Olivarez Area.

Have ablessed trip to Tagaytay. Happy New Year!

Very sorry for the late reply.

May mga jeep na po papuntang Picnic Grove and People's Park sa Tagaytay Terminal.

Mas mauuna ang Picnic Grove dahil ang People's Park na ang last destination ng jeep.

    1. Hello Inah.
